The Evanston Police Department has taken an individual into custody after reports of a person with a handgun near Main Street and Ridge Avenue Wednesday afternoon, Cmdr. Chelsea Brown said. About 12:55 p.m., Evanston/Skokie School District 65 enacted a Secure and Teach protocol at Park School, 828 Main St., and Nichols Middle School, 800 Greenleaf St., where “entry and exit would not be allowed, a message from District 65 said. Fifteen minutes later, District 65 said it received an all-clear from police and lifted the Secure and Teach. “We do have someone in custody and none of the students are in danger,” Brown said. This is an ongoing investigation, and police will continue to release information as it becomes available, Brown said. This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
